Summary Interpretation Of About Love
About love Is a story by Anton Chekhov. A famous Russian dramatist and story writer. In this story, the dimension of love has been presented on the spiritual level. Three sarts of love expression had been given here.
Alyohin- the narrator of this story along with his two friends Burkin and Ivan is having breakfast in-country hotel. Then, Alyohin starting telling the love story between Nikanor and pelageya. Nikanor was very much love by her, but he was a bit drunker and used to beat pelageya for not marrying him.
Therefore, pelageya decided to live separately but she wouldn’t marry anyone.
Then, the narrator and his friends decided to talk about ideal love. By this Alyohin become emotional and started telling his own story of platonic love. In fact, he was the son of a farmer and his father had sent him to the city in order to get a university education.
There, At the university, he met a beautiful and small girl and they enjoyed together. Their relationship broke while Alyohin left university. He went back to the village and found that his father was is heavy debt.
So, Alyohin decided to live in the village until he would pay the debt up. To adjust the town and village life, he hired a hotel room and stay there for some days. Ther, he was appointed as an honorary justice of the circuit court of peace Mr. luganovich was the assistant staff.
One day, MR. Luganovich Invited Alyohin for dinner. At his house, Alyohin saw anna the wife of luganovich. At the first meeting, Alyohin felt nearest and a sense of attraction toward up. Anna and Alyohin frequently visited each other and the relationships become closer and closer.
Anna also starting loving Alyohin spiritually and Alyohin also felt the same. Yet, they did not confess their love. Alyohin thought that he should not confess his love because anna had a good family and he wouldn’t be able to make her happy as he wasn’t a famous one.
Likewise, anna also couldn’t express because she was already a married woman and mother of two children. Moreover, she probably thought that she wouldn’t be able to provide full satisfaction. Anna was already married and she had two children thinking that her mind would turn away from her. She would show her anger at alyohin some times. At the meeting was smooth and clear.
In the end, Anna had to go to Crimea and her husband had to go to the western province. People were waiting at the railway station to see anna off. Alyohin reached there and went into the compartment of anna in the pretense of placing a basket. There they couldn’t keep themself apart. They embarrassed each other and confessed their love without speaking a single word. After that got up the train at the next station.

4. Nikanor: A hotel cook. He is a drunkard. He loves pelageya. A beautiful girl. He beats pelageya for not marrying him.
5. Pelageya: A lovely hotel servant/staff. She loves nikanor but is unwilling to marry him. She doesn’t want to marry him or anybody else but still love nikanor. Violent, sensual, and expressed love.
6. Burkin and Ivan: They are two friends from Alyohin. Alyohin tells them in a country of the hotel while having breakfast.
